Dinner with Future Leaders is a program designed to build and strengthen the FIU Honors College community by connecting FIU alums with Honors College students through a great meal and informal conversation. To participate in the dinner, students must be members of the FIU Alumni Association. For membership details, please visit http://fiualumni.com. There is no cost to students for the dinners, which are sponsored by FIU alumni.

Cuban-born entrepreneur Juan Carlos Vila is the president and chief executive offi cer of one of the largest privately held landscaping fi rms in Florida. Mr. Vila has experienced more than 20 years of success in Florida’s competitive landscaping industry, earning the trust of clients such as Disney, the Dreher Park Zoo, and The Seminole Hard Rock Resort and Casino. His fi rm recently ranked 11th in Landscape Management’s survey of Top 100 Green Industry Companies and was recognized by the Florida Nurserymen Growers & Landscapers Association for its work on Coral Gables’ Village of Merrick Park. Despite a hectic schedule that includes overseeing major beautifi cation projects and running a nursery and tree farm on his 200-acre property in Homestead, this self-made entrepreneur still fi nds time to have breakfast with every new employee and participate in his employees’ annual “Copa” soccer tournament. Mr. Vila will share his remarkable story, from his journey to the United States aboard a shrimp boat to his fi rst job sweeping peanut shells from the aisles of the Orange Bowl to his triumph building a small family-run business into a multi-million dollar empire.

As an attorney at Kenny Nachwalter, P.A., FIU’s Honors College alumna Christina Ceballos-Levy’s legal practice is focused on professional malpractice defense on be-half of attorneys and law firms, securities litigations and other matters of complex commercial litigation. Ceballos-Levy graduated summa cum laude from FIU in 1997 with a degree in English. She continued onto the University of Miami where she earned a Juris Doctorate, also graduating summa cum laude. There, she was a member of the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law schools students, and the Ex-ecutive Editor of the University of Miami Law Review. Since her appointment to the Florida Bar in 2000, she became a member of the Young Leaders Division of the Dade County Bar and the Cuban American Bar Association. In addition, she holds a teach-ing position at the University of Miami School of Law, where she teaches Legal Re-search and Writing to students earning a Comparative Law LLM. Most recently, she received the FIU Torch Award for her contributions to FIU’s Honors College.

Marcos Perez

As the Vice President of Administration at Florida International University, Marcos Perez supervises the general administrative functions of the university at all campuses. He is a member of the Executive Committee which is responsible for all strategy, policy, and operations decisions for the university.

Marcos began pursuing his Ph.D. in Leadership in the Fall of 2003 and accepted the position of the Chief of Staff for the President. In this role, he served as liaison for the President, maintaining a high level of public relations and interaction with university and community contacts.

Before joining the university community, Marcos worked in the beverage industry as Vice President and Director of the Bacardi Beverage Company (a strategic alliance with the Anheuser-Busch company). Previously, from 2001 to 2003, he headed up the group of strategic planning and business development. Prior to that, Marcos served as the Vice President and Commercial Director at Bacardi Corporation (Puerto Rico), where he was responsible for all commercial operations for 24 countries in the Caribbean.

Marcos holds an MBA and Bachelors degree in Marketing and International Business from Florida International University. He is currently working on his Ph.D.

Vivian Sanchez

Harvard Business School graduate Vivian Sanchez serves as FIU´s interim Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In this capacity, Sanchez oversees the financial responsibilities of the University, including the offices of the Controller, Budget, Purchasing and Treasury.

Sanchez, a co-founder and managing partner of Initium LLC, an advisory firm dedicated to assisting companies restructure by expanding into new markets/ventures and developing effective operating infrastructures, brings more than 15 years of senior-level executive experience to FIU. She has designed and implemented business and financial strategies for organizations in the U.S., Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia.

A graduate from Harvard Business School (1993), Sanchez completed undergraduate studies at Georgetown University’s reputable School of Foreign Service. As the host of The Honors College´s third Dinner with Future Leaders, Vivian Sanchez will discuss her career in international business, finance and consulting as well as some of the strategic choices that helped her become a successful business leader.

Twelve Honors College students had dinner with Honors College alumus Eliot Pedrosa, Class of 1995, and Harvard University Law School graduate.

In an informal setting, Pedrosa chatted with Honors College leaders about his experience in the legal industry and at Harvard Law School. This program was the second "Dinner" of a series and was sponsored by Eliot Pedrosa of Greenberg Traurig. Gerald Grant, Jr. is the Branch Director of Corporate and Individual Financial Planning of AXA Advisor's South Florida Branch. He brought to AXA Advisors over eleven years of banking experience and was previously associated with Citibank, where he held the position of Branch Vice President and Cluster Manager. Prior to Citibank, Grant was a Branch Manager with Great Western Bank. His experience and knowledge is now used to help him focus on providing estate planning wealth accumulation and protection, retirement planning and other financial services.

Gerald Grant is an active member of the South Florida community, serving on the board of advisors for the Farquahar Center For Undergraduate Studies at Nova Southeastern University, the FIU Council of 100, the Miami-Dade Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and Tools For Change. In August 2002, Gerald was accepted into the NFL Players Association Registered Player Financial Advisors Program.

Gerald holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business Administration from Florida International University.
