ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BERKELEY
James O' Brien, Ph.D., was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Miami, Florida, where he attended Christopher Columbus High School. After graduating from FIU with a Bachelors in Computer Science, he went on to complete a Doctorate of Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2000.
James is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the
University of California, Berkeley. He conducts research in the area of computer graphics, focusing primarily on simulation and motion capture techniques for modeling natural phenomena and human behavior.
Among his distinctions in the field are being named a Sloan Fellow, being selected by Technology Review as one of the world's 100 top
technology
innovators in 2004, receiving awards for his research contributions by the Okawa and Hellman Foundations. He lives in Berkeley with his wife and two children.
