Honors College China Program 2010
IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE:
CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE PROGRAM

This month-long program is designed to sweep you off your feet with a trip to the “Middle Kingdom” in modern time. You will learn about Chinese history and culture. To help enhance your learning, you should expect to interact with Chinese students of the host university. The valuable visits in the country are designed to help you have a better understanding of how people live their lives in China. At the end of the course, you will definitely have a stronger grasp of the language and a deeper appreciation of the Chinese culture.
The course will be taught at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou—capital city of Zhejiang Province, described by Marco Polo as “the finest city of the world,” and “City of Heaven.” The University is the equivalent of Yale, with a long standing history. The campus is picturesque and the facilities modern. Guided visits will include going to the famous West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Dragon Well Tea Plantation, Song Dynasty Theme Park, Six Harmonies Pagoda, Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine in such cities as Hangzhou, Wuzhen, and One Thousand Islands.
The director of the travel-study portion of the Honors College China Program is Prof. Li Ma. She is the first full-time Instructor of Chinese at FIU. She earned her B.A. in English from Beijing Language and Culture University and continued her graduate studies in education at the University of Michigan. Currently, she earning a doctoral degree at the University of Miami.
