In an effort to assist freshmen through the challenges of their first year at FIU, students of the Honors College developed a program called M.U.S.E. (Mentoring University Students for Excellence). Through this program, we pair up second, third, and fourth year Honors College students with incoming Honors College freshmen to give them the best chance at succeeding in the complex world of university life.
Our mentors are highly motivated, involved on campus, academically successful, and a lot of fun. Throughout the year, we attend philanthropic events, FIU sponsored sports games, and Honors College activities. Additionally, through the program we have access to many of the organizations on campus. From Student Government to Greek Life, mentors have been involved and engaged and are eager to help first-year students do the same. They themselves have either been there, know how to get there, or know someone who will make sure that mentee gets there. Not only will the first-year student have more access to campus life, but he/she will also have a friend and a confidant to keep them motivated and on-track. After their first year in the program, the mentee will have the opportunity to become a mentor himself. The mentor position is one that is highly rewarding, looks great on a job/graduate school application, and is personally fulfilling.
If you are interested in becoming a mentee for the upcoming 2008-09 school year, please fill out an application at
