OCTOBER 15, 2008 (MIAMI, FL) -- The Honors College's Amazon study abroad program has created a stunning exhibition of photos taken by its students during last summer's trip to the Peruvian section of the Amazon. The show, titled "Amazon Retrospective," will be presented at the FIU libraries, on the first floor of the Biscayne Bay library until the end of November and on the fourth floor of University Park's Green Library starting October 15th at 3:30 pm and finishing at the end of the fall semester.
The University Park opening will have Honors College student Dave Bush, along with Program Directors Devon Graham and Jim Riach, give an introductory presentation on the exhibition, which will include large screen images of the expansive rain forest that the students found intriguing. Musical and conservation group Kuyayky is tentatively set to perform its melodic brand of native Andean music in the special collections area of the library. There will also be a display of traditional Yagua Indian costumes and miscellaneous arts and crafts.
The exihibition would have not have been possible without the help of the Honors College, the Pathfinders, a new FIU student organization formed by students from the 2007-2008 Amazon program, non-governmental organization Project Amazonas, independent videography company Rising Moon Productions, and a generous donation from Pearl's Art and Craft Supplier.
