
Carlos Betancourt, Cut Out Army, 2006
MIAMI (April 17, 2007)- Prominent Miami artist Carlos Betancourt will donate “The Cut-Out Army” to Florida International University (FIU) on behalf of the Honors College student-curators of the exhibit Aesthetics & Values 2007 and their professor, John Bailly. The exhibit is currently on display at the Green Library Gallery.
Betancourt will present the gift to Ron Berkman, Provost and Executive Vice President of FIU and Lesley Northup, interim Dean of the Honors College, on Wednesday, April 18, at 2:00 PM at the Green Library (GL220).
The artist was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1981 he moved to Miami. His work is in the collections of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, the Bass Museum in Miami and the Museum of Latin American Art in California. Betancourt’s artwork has been included in multiple solo and group exhibits around the world. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants such as the Florida Department of State Millennium Cultural Recognition Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and the Miami Beach Arts Council Grant.
