SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 (MIAMI) - Patrick G. Morris, the President and CEO of Hands On Miami Inc., has joined the FIU Honors College Community Advisory Board (CAB). Pat now joins a select group of leaders from the professional community in a dynamic partnership with FIU’s Honors College. The CAB provides tangible resource support to prepare FIU’s brightest students to become future leaders in the global marketplace.
Morris helped found Hands On Miami in 1993. The non-profit organization has grown to include over 5,000 volunteers completing more than 80 projects a month. The volunteers build low-income housing, restore the environment, tutor at-risk children, care for homeless pets, read to children in shelters, feed the homeless, and provide companionship to the elderly.
“We are fortunate to have Pat on our board. He is a leader with a passion for community service and will be a great role model for our students,” said Honors College Dean Lesley A. Northup.
The Honors College at Florida International University is a center of excellence dedicated to the education of a special community of exceptional students representing all majors. The College prepares some of FIU’s best and brightest to become well-rounded individuals and leaders in their fields and communities through a broad interdisciplinary curriculum focused on critical thinking, along with leadership training, extracurricular programs and real-world career opportunities.
