MIAMI (September24, 2009) – The Honors College at Florida International University presents the second of its three fall semester colloquia, featuring FIU Psychology Professor Bennett Schwartz's lecture titled "Principles of Memory Improvement." The colloquium will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Deuxieme Maison Building Room 100 (DM 100) on Modesto A. Maidique Campus from 3:30pm to 4:45pm.
Professor Schwartz will discuss four main principles of memory improvement, the science behind them, and how they can be applied to learning of school-related information and to remembering in general. "The psychology of learning and memory has advanced to the point that memory psychologists can offer some general advise on how to improve memory based upon empirically-tested principles," notes Schwartz.
Prof. Bennett Schwartz conducts research on human memory, with an emphasis on metamemory-- that is, the processes that allow us to monitor and control our own memory abilities. He also conducts research on memory in non-human primates, and has written, co-written, and edited three books, and has published widely in experimental psychology journals. Schwartz won a TIP award for teaching excellence way back in 1997.
The Honors College presents two to three lecture programs each semester as part of its colloquia series on both FIU campuses. Prominent scholars address the Honors College and FIU community throughout the academic year.
