Freshmen
Since admission to the freshman class of the College
is limited and competitive, students should complete
the application process as early as possible in their
senior year of high school. Priority consideration
will be given to those applications received before
February 15. Students should have a minimum high school
GPA of 3.5 (weighted) and commensurate scores on the
SAT or ACT.
Transfer and Current FIU Students
Students with at least a 3.3 in prior college work
also can apply to the College at the second or third
level. Generally, students must have four semesters
beyond the next Fall Term remaining in their program
of studies in order to complete the honors requirements
and qualify for graduation through the College. Students
transferring from a Florida Community College may
qualify for scholarships. Recipients are selected
on the basis of transfer GPA (special attention is
paid to prior performance in honors courses), extra-curricular
activities, and letters of recommendation.
To be considered for these awards, students must submit
1) a completed application for membership in The Honors
College including the required essay; 2) a current
official transcript; and 3) two letters of recommendation.
Students who submit these documents will be considered
for all applicable awards. All scholarship recipients
must be members of The Honors College and maintain
full-time enrollment (15 FIU credits per term) with
a minimum GPA of at least 3.3. Students who apply
by February 15 will be given priority consideration.
Initial awards will be made on March 1.
Returning Students
While the majority of the students in the College
are of a traditional college age, many of our most
active and successful students have been those who
have returned to higher education after an absence
to work or raise a family.
Prior to being admitted to The Honors College, students
must first complete the University application process.
