Because of their outstanding academic
performance and service record, many transfer students
from Florida community colleges qualify for financial
support under one of several transfer scholarship
programs. Scholarship recipients are selected on the
basis of transfer GPA (special attention is paid to
prior performance in honors courses), extra-curricular
activities, and letters of recommendation. To be considered
for these awards, students must submit the following
documents:
- a completed application for
membership in The Honors College
- two letters of recommendation
from previous instructors
- an application for FIU admission
to the University's Office of Admissions
Students who submit these docum
ents will be considered for applicable awards. All
scholarship recipients must participate in The Honors
College and maintain enrollment in 15 credits per
term with a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.3.
Students who apply by February 15 will be given priority
consideration. Initial awards will be made on March
1.
Willis Holcombe Scholarship
Available only to graduates of Broward Community College,
this award covers the full cost of in-state tuition
and registration fees. A minimum cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 is required.
Eduardo Padron Scholarship
Available only to graduates of Miami-Dade College,
this award covers the full cost of in-state tuition
and registration fees. A minimum cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 is required.
Presidential Scholarship
Available to graduates of all Florida community colleges,
this award covers the full cost of instate tuition
and registrations fees. Students who are interested
in this award should submit a letter of recommendation
from the college President. A minimum cumulative grade
point average of 3.5 is required.
FIU / Community College Honors Scholarship
Recognizing the academic achievement of students who
have received the A.A. degree or are transfer-approved
from Florida community colleges, this award provides
$750 per semester for a maximum of four semesters.
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 is
required.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Each year one outstanding member of PTK is awarded
$2000 per year for a maximum of two years. Students
who are interested in this award should submit a letter
of recommendation from their PTK faculty advisor.
A minimum grade point average of 3.5 is required.
Lucille E. Snaith Memorial Honors College
Scholarship
Available only to an entering freshman at Florida
International University. The scholarship will be
in the amount of $2000 for the academic year and may
be renewed for one or more years providing funds are
available. Also, the recipient must remain a full-time
Honors College student, make satisfactory progress
towards a bachelor’s degree and maintain a minimum
3.3 cumulative grade point average at FIU to be eligible
to renew the scholarship

POLICIES GOVERNING HONORS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
FIU/CC Honors and Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
- Award is available to transfer
students holding A.A. degree from Florida community
colleges.
- Students must have completed
the A.A. with an overall GPA of at least 3.3/3.5
respectively and must have the support of his/her
community college Honors Director.
- The FIU/CC Honors Scholarship
is for $750 per semester for no more than four semesters
of full-time study.
- The PTK Scholarship is for $
1,000 per semester for a maximum of two years. A
minimum enrollment of 15 credits per term is required
for both scholarships.
- Recipients must be members in
good standing of The Honors College.
- Awards will begin only during
the Fall Semester of each academic year and will
not be available during the Summer terms.
- All students (except for international
students) will submit a current Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Processor
(available from any Community College or University
Financial Aid Office.)
- Students who without prior approval
do not enroll in 15 FIU credits, cease participation
in The Honors College, or do not maintain at least
a 3.3 overall GPA (reviewed annually) will not receive
the award and will not be eligible for future support.
- Any appeal of these policies
must be made in writing to the College Scholarship
Committee.
- Fall admission required for all
scholarship awards.

Willis Holcombe, Eduardo
Padron, and Presidential Scholarships
- Awards available to students
transferring from Florida Community Colleges
(Holcombe, BCC, Padron, MDC, and Presidential)
- Fall admission required for all
scholarship awards.
- Students must have completed
the A.A. degree with a cumulative GPA of at least
3.5 and must have the support of the appropriate
community college Honors Director.
- Awards will cover the full cost of in-state tuition and the health and athletic fees. Minimum enrollment of 15 FIU credit hours per term (Fall/Spring is required). Awards will cover a maximum of 15 credits per term.
- Awards will begin only during
the Fall term of each academic year and will not
be available during Summer terms.
- Continuation of the award is
contingent upon the student's maintaining an overall
FIU GPA of at least 3.3 (reviewed annually), earning a minimum of 30 credits per academic year.
- Scholars must maintain membership
in The Honors College.
- All students (except for international
students) will submit a current Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Processor
(available from any Community College or University
Financial Aid Office.)
- Students who do not meet these
requirements will not receive the award and will
not be eligible for future support.
