HEARTbeats (A cappella group)

A cappella groups sing without musical accompaniment only relying on the tones of the human voice. HEARTbeats, founded and led by Kamila Manzueta under the faculty mentorship of Professor Janet McDaniel, brings together students who sing, who beatbox, who rap, and more. From the most popular of pop music to classic World War I tunes to lift the spirits of the downtrodden, if it can be sung HEARTbeats will make a showstopping performance of it.

For more information on HEARTbeats please contact Luli Szeinblum by email at luli.szeinblum@fiu.edu or Faculty Director Janet McDaniel at jmcdanie@fiu.edu.

HEARTbeats is pleased to announce fall auditions for all voice parts. The auditions will take place the first week of school. First there will be individual auditions, with a possible call back to participate in a group audition. For the individual auditions, students are asked to prepare 90 seconds of a song of any genre that best showcases their  range (i.e. an Adele or Amy Winehouse song might best show off an alto’s voice). No previous musical experience is needed (though it is highly recommended as sheet music is used). During the audition, ranges will be determined, and previous musical experience (if applicable) will be tested. For the call backs, songs will be assigned according to the respective voice parts.

Contact Kamila Manzueta at heartbeats.fiuhonors@gmail.com for more information. To RSVP for the following audition times and days, please go here: http://hon.fiu.edu/hbauditions
