Mentoring University Students for Excellence, MUSE, is designed to assist incoming freshmen with the transition to university life.  Mentors and mentees meet on a regular basis to discuss academics and balancing a healthy social life, civic responsibilities, community involvement, and any other issues that the mentee is concerned about.

Why Become a Mentee?

Honors Mentors, your fellow students, have taken the classes you will soon be
taking, hold leadership positions in organizations you want to join, and are here to support and guide you throughout the academic year. The mentors provide a valuable support system and continual advice, such as:

  • How to make the most of FIU
  • When and where to park
  • Course and professor selection
  • College study methods
  • Best food at the best prices, any time of day
  • When and where to study abroad
  • Choosing an appropriate research project/topic

Why Become a Mentor?

Do you remember your first day as a freshman in college, all the nervousness and excitement, the heavy books in your hands, the grueling trek to figure out in which building your class was? As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to pair up and guide an Honors College freshman through the numerous obstacles of college. You will be able to develop close bonds with your mentee, empower him/her to develop into a stronger, more driven individual and transform his/her first year in college into an unforgettable one.

If you are interested in becoming a mentee for the upcoming 2008-09 school year, please fill out an application at
