21st Century Literacy

This course will examine how literacy has evolved in the twenty-first century. Supposedly, no one reads or writes anymore. But if that’s the case, what are we all doing while we “waste time” on the internet? We will explore the ways in which we read and write in our daily lives using the internet. We’ll turn a critical eye to what we’re finding online, so that we won’t fall prey to all the content out there. And we will examine our micro-obsessions together, using the internet in all its glory to research and develop new content. The students will take turns being the teacher as together we shape a highly-customized digital education and on the way learn how to adapt to twenty-first century literacy skills.
