INSTRUCTOR: Maikel Alendy

SECTION: Spring, Summer B (Fully-Online) – RVBB

Course Description

Digital Legacies, is a course dedicated to evaluating the disruption the “Smart-phone Era” and the Internet of Things have had on our holistic living experience. Students will regularly look to the value of design and the art of digital manipulation. They will then construct a digital campaign of their own promoting either a Topic, Idea, Movement, Object, or Business of their choosing. The course description will read:

In this class, we look at the invisible forces that control our emotions, purchases, prejudices, ideas, and exposure to the digital story that is our life. We will critically explore how the design of social media and various disruptive technologies and movements have affected our society, our economy, and our personal lives. In order to do this, this course relies heavily on non-traditional sources of course information such as YouTube videos, News articles, Podcasts, Social media posts, Memes, and various websites. It is my goal, that when you successfully complete this course, you will not only be able to identify design decisions that motivate and move yourself and others, but you will be able to create an effective digital campaign by constructing your own website, managing a social media account, and contributing to Wikipedia. You won’t just be a background character in this digital fairytale called life, but a disruptive, innovative, and aware engager in your digital happy ever after.
