It is recommended that First-Year students participate after completing their lower division Honors College curriculum.

Honors Study Abroad Courses

Our programs are unique because they are offered in a two-semester format. The programs consist of two Honors upper division classes: IDH 4007 and IDH 4008. This allows for students and faculty to be acquainted with one another prior to traveling abroad together. IDH 4007 is the mandatory prerequisite course for IDH 4008.

IDH 4007

IDH 4007 is the pre-travel course on campus in the Spring semester. There may be some off-campus meetings or activities.

      - Learn most of the course content
      - Meet weekly with Faculty Director & fellow travelers
      -
Coordinate travel plans with classmates

    IDH 4008

IDH 4008 takes place in the Summer A, B, or C semester and consists of the actual travel. Students travel as a group with their Faculty Director for 3-6 weeks. The group sizes range from 14-22 Honors College students.

          - Apply content learned in the Spring semester
          - Further learn through many daily walks, activities, visits, and tours
          - Reflect on findings and compile information in projects, exams, and/
             or presentations

The same or more academic rigor and effort is expected of students in IDH 4007 and IDH 4008 as any other Honors College course on campus. Participants of Honors Study Abroad programs are considered international academic ambassadors of the Honors College of Florida International University.
