To start a scholarship application on AcademicWorks:
- Login at fiu.academicworks.com with your MyAccounts username and password. (You must have already activated your FIU e-mail account and have a Panther ID number)
- Fill out the general scholarship application. AcademicWorks will recommend scholarships for which you may be eligible. For some, you will automatically be entered into the applicant pool; for others, you may need to answer additional questions.
- To search for the Honors College scholarships (listed below), type “Honors College” in the search tab.
- For First Generation scholarships, you must qualify as a “First Generation” student to be eligible. To be considered First Gen, you must have put on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that neither of your parents completed a bachelor’s degree in any country. If that is the case but you answered the FAFSA incorrectly, you must go to https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/review-and-correct/correct and file an amendment to your FAFSA to be eligible for First Generation scholarships.
- To be eligible for institutional aid, a student must either be a citizen of the United States, a U.S. lawful permanent resident or an international student on an aid eligible visa. Please note: DACA/TPS/Undocumented students without a legal status are not eligible for Federal, State or Institutional Funding.
Alberto Garcia Marrero First Generation Honor College Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all eligible Honors College students. However, preference will be given to students enrolled in their first year of the Honors College and majoring in International Business.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- In the first generation of their family to complete a college degree (students whose siblings have attained or are pursuing a degree are eligible);
- Resident of the state of Florida;
- Enrollment for a minimum of six credit hours per semester;
- Have financial need as determined through the FAFSA and be eligible for a Pell Grant;
- Preference will be given to students enrolled in their first year of the Honors College and majoring in International Business.
Amount (one-time): Up to $1,000 a year

Bilzin Sumberg Scholarship In Memoriam of Damion Dunn, ‘05
The scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in or accepted for admission to the Honors College, who has demonstrated leadership ability in extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to a student who is a current or former resident of Jamaica and who intends to pursue a career in law.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- Demonstrated leadership ability in extracurricular activities;
- Preferably pre-law;
- Preferably a current or former resident of Jamaica.
Scholarship is renewable for an additional three years if he or she maintains a 3.2 GPA. The student will receive the following amount of support annually:
i. Year One: $2500
ii. Year Two: $2000
iii. Year Three: $1500
iv. Year Four: $1500
Carlos M. Castellon First Generation Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- In the first generation of their family to complete a college degree (students whose siblings have attained or are pursuing a degree are eligible);
- Outstanding academic performance;
- Preferably a student pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a major in Accounting.

Dean’s Advisory Board Scholarship
Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Honors College, making significant progress in their degree program. Recipients will be chosen principally on the basis of academic performance and financial need, as determined by the Dean of the Honors College.
Amount: Up to $5,000 for the Spring semester

Elsa Rodriguez Memorial First Generation Scholarship

- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- In the first generation of their family to complete a college degree (students whose siblings have attained or are pursuing a degree are eligible);

- Demonstrated financial need by completing the national Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be eligible for a Pell Grant.
Additional Criteria:
- Applicants must submit an essay sharing their personal experience of what it means to be a first-generation student and their experience as part of an immigrant family.

Harvey L. Young Family Foundation Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- Demonstrated financial need in a written statement to the Honors College Scholarship Committee;

- Evidence of motivation, character, and potential.

Honorpreneurship Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- Open to all majors and tracks, however, preference will be given to students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration;
- Provide copy of an updated resume;
- Submit a description of a new startup or new business idea you are planning to pursue. Format is in essay form (max one page, single space).

Jorge and Darlene Perez Scholars Endowment
Eligibility Criteria:
- Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and must maintain this GPA to continue to receive this scholarship. The scholarship may be renewed, for a maximum of 4 years.
- Recipients must submit an essay about the following: The purpose of the FIU Honors College is to educate, prepare, and motivate tomorrow’s leaders who generate value. What trials did you encounter and what knowledge did you acquire to generate value? How do you plan to use this talent or value to change South Florida? How do you envision creating a better city and state? How will your FIU education and this scholarship allow you to accomplish your goals and make a difference? How will you give back?
- Recipients must submit a paragraph to the Donor at the end of each semester explaining their future leadership potential and updating the Donor as to how the scholarship is helping the recipient achieve his or her goals.
- Preference will be given to those with a desire to stay in the South Florida community upon graduation.
- The scholarship will be given to students demonstrating outstanding scholastic aptitude and accomplishments and, secondarily, financial need.
- Recipients must be enrolled as full-time, degree seeking Honors College students.
Amount: $10,000 a year
Duration:
Automatic renewal for a maximum of four (4) years, if recipient:
- Remains a full-time degree-seeking Honors College student.

José Martí First Generation Honors College Scholarship*
These scholarships will be awarded to Honors College students in good standing who are Hispanic-American or of Spanish culture with origins in Mexico, South America, Central America, or the Caribbean.

- Resident of the state of Florida;
- Enrollment for a minimum of six credit hours per semester;
- Have financial need as determined through the FAFSA.

- Evidence of motivation, good character, leadership potential, and community service.

Pamela Silva First Generation Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (minimum 3.3 GPA);
- Have financial need as determined by the FAFSA;
- Enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours per semester;
- Preferably majoring in the College of Business Administration or the School of Journalism and Mass Communications
- Two letters of recommendation
- A 2-page typewritten (double-spaced) essay about your career goals, reasons for choosing the profession, and where you would like to work in the future.

Panorama Travel First Generation Honors College Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all eligible Honors College students. However, preference will be given to students who are Hispanic-American or of Spanish culture with origins in Mexico, South America, Central America, or the Caribbean.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Entering or current Honors College student in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);
- In the first generation of their family to complete a college degree (students whose siblings have attained or are pursuing a degree are eligible);
- Resident of the state of Florida;
- Enrollment for a minimum of six credit hours per semester;
- Have financial need as determined through the FAFSA and be eligible for a Pell Grant;
- Be Hispanic-American or a person of Spanish culture with origins in Mexica, South America, Central America, or the Caribbean, regardless of race;
- Preference will be given to students of Nicaraguan descent;
- Preference will be given to students with a strong community service background.

The Prospanica SFL Honors College Award
Prospanica SFL is partnering with the Honors College at Florida International University (FIU) in developing a real-life case study for students at the FIU Honors College.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Currently attending Florida International University Honors College
- Student pursuing a Business degree
- Provide copy of an updated resume
- Be a citizen of the United States, a U.S. lawful permanent resident or an international student with intention of receiving the F-1 visa to study in the United States
You are to select a local business, preferably predominantly Hispanic-owned or Hispanic-facing with whom to work with. Information about this firm is to be included in a cover letter/introduction to your case. Said information should contain the name, address, contact information, and contact person within the firm. Prospanica South Florida reserves the right to contact this business to confirm participation in the Case Competition.
Please make sure to read all the information provided in this case and develop recommendations for one of the following options:
Choose one of these 3 Focus Areas for your recommendation(s), given your choice of a local, preferably Hispanic firm, with whom to work:
- Your firm wants to expand to another location within the next five years; make a recommendation on what makes a great location for this business and highlight some potential areas within the greater South Florida area.
- Develop new Marketing Ideas to promote your firm’s services but not limited to: (social media, rewards, and online campaigns)
- Creating a Management Structure for the Owner’s transition from Employee to Manager – for example, how would you recommend for the owner to stop doing the day-to-day activities and start leading a highly efficient team?
- How do you recommend your firm transition more fully into the business environment caused by COVID-19?

- Intend to major in “arts and sciences” (i.e. any major in the physical sciences, social sciences, liberal studies, or the fine and performing arts.)

The Tony Menendez Computer Scholarship
This scholarship awards a laptop computer with all the pertinent programs, along with IT support from the College’s computer lab staff when needed.

- Financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Vidal-Duart First Generation Scholarship
This scholarship is open to first generation Honors College students. Preference will be given to students majoring in Business and/or Engineering. The Vivian and Vanessa Melgoza Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:
- Honors College Senior (or rising Junior) in good standing (min. 3.3 GPA);

- Financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
