From FIU Honors to Microsoft: Luis Masieri Alumni Spotlight

David Melendez Uncategorized

From the classrooms of the FIU Honors College to the forefront of computer technology, Luis Masieri, class of 2013, has paved an exceptional road to success. Today, Luis is a successful Principal Product Manager at Microsoft in Seattle, Washington. His role involves devising strategies to enhance the product development lifecycle, drive adoption, and expand market presence. To bring out the full potential of a product, Masieri works with customers, designers, engineers, and sales teams. Masieri’s leadership skills, product management experience, and technical expertise help him lead cross-functional teams to conceive solutions that yield favorable business results for customers and increase product adoption within the industry.

Years of hard work and dedication have led to numerous accomplishments for Luis’ career. Last month Luis reached an incredible milestone of working at Microsoft for 10 years. The technology industry involves workers constantly changing companies and jobs. Masieri credits his desire to participate in different roles within Microsoft and innovate himself for his decade-long tenure at the company. As one of the first FIU students to intern and work at Microsoft, Masieri played a vital role in kickstarting the FIU to Microsoft pipeline. Yet another accomplishment that Luis prides himself, helping to create a more diverse background of young diligent workers at one of the biggest companies in the world.

One of Masieri’s favorite memories as an FIU Honors student was during the Italy Honors Study Abroad program led by Professor John Bailly. He advised his students to be aware that they are considered the most gifted students of FIU. Honor students challenge each other to bring the best out of one another. However, the work environment in life after college has various people with wide-ranging skills and mindsets. “Professor Bailly told us about the importance of adapting to a work environment where others may not be as driven or motivated as you are,” says Masieri.

The more crucial advice Masieri has for current students interested in a successful career after college is to get involved with organizations and build connections with others. Masieri credits much of his success to the connections he made on his journey. As a member of FIU’s Student government association, Luis took the initiative to network and build connections that ultimately helped him land an internship at Google. As his Google internship was coming to a close, he had the chance to meet with a Microsoft recruiter, whom he met through another connection. His relationship with this recruiter led him to obtain a Microsoft internship and eventually a full-time job. Becoming involved at your university or community leads to more opportunities to network and create long-term career benefits.

As Luis Masieri continues to shine brightly in the world of technology, he leaves an indelible mark at FIU. Luis wishes to continue assisting current FIU students to enter the tech industry and serves as an inspiration for FIU Honors students everywhere.
