Biography

John William Bailly is a British–French–American artist, professor, and public speaker based in Lyon and Miami. He earned an MFA in Painting from Yale University and a BA in Art History from Florida International University. He is a professor in the FIU Honors College and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. For fifteen years, he directed study abroad programs in France, Italy, and Spain, spending a month in each country. Since 2029, Bailly has applied the study abroad experiential format to innovative classes in Miami, in which the classroom is Miami itself. In addition, he lectures internationally aboard cruise ships between academic terms. Bailly has received multiple awards for both art and teaching, including two Excellence in Teaching awards, and was named the inaugural McCormick Fellow Artist-in-Residence at the Deering Estate. “In-Situ,” a 2023 documentary by Jorge Gonzalez-Graupera on his art and life, received two Emmy Awards.
