Course Description
*This is the 2nd half of a yearlong course but this one can be taken without the 1st half*
This course applies theoretical discussions of myth and ritual to the contemporary medium of film. Following the trail of 19th-century anthropology and 20th-century psychology, students will explore the binding connections between myth and ritual and between literature and drama. Students will also examine mainstream cinema as shared experience, film adaptations, mythic storytelling, religious and sociological interpretations, and much more. Assignments will include discussion, research, writing, and amateur filmmaking.
