Amanda Emery

Biography

Dr. Amanda Emery began at FIU in July 2023 as the Director of Student Services at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Professions where she leads a dynamic team for recruitment, admissions, and academic advising. On campus, she also serves as a Faculty Fellow in the Honors College and teaches SLS 1501. She is also involved in her sorority, Omega Phi Beta, as a chapter and campus advisor.

Prior to joining FIU, Dr. Emery served in roles at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, from 2010 – 2023, including Associate Director of Student Success for First Year & Transition Programs, Assistant Director of FYTP, Project Director of Perimeter Academy, and Coordinator of New Student Orientation. In her early career, she held roles as Assistant Director, then Director of Student Activities at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD, from 2000 to 2008.

Dr. Emery hails from Massachusetts and spent two years living abroad in Rabat, Morrocco. She holds an A.A.S. in Interior Design from Newbury College, a B.A. in Communication Arts and a M.A. in Public Administration from Framingham State University.  Dr. Emery earned her Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Clark Atlanta University in December 2021.

For the Honors College, Dr. Emery has taught Introduction to Honors & Leadership and Honors Seminar I & II and Introduction to Honors for Nursing & Health Sciences. The upper division course she teaches, “Healthcare Issues & Advocacy in the Political Context” helps future healthcare professionals become aware of how government and politics can shape the trajectory of their field and healthcare practices, and their role as an advocate for their patients and their profession.
